Resarch And Planning: Magazine And Contents

 Evaluation
This is my completed magazine and contents page. To design the Front cover I used 'photo shop', For the main image I photographed my friend outside the college in front of the trees in the car park. On the image I made some alterations to smooth en her face with the healing brush tool. I also altered the color balance of the photo to make the trees a brighter green and to have a better all round contrast. To create the contents page I used 'In Design' this didn't take long as I only used the text icon. On The college magazine cover I like the finished product and feel that it was successful, what I like the most is the main photograph, it is appropriate to the magazine as it is a student. Something that doesn't look as effective is the masthead, I should of but the text behind the student, I will consider this when I redo my front cover. On the front cover of the magazine which I produced the font sizes throughout I think are correct, there is a variety of sizes which i feel are approriate. I think that the masthead is the right size as it doesn't take up to much room, yet it is noticeable. The story fonts are all the same, the top part of the story is in a bigger font to the bottom, this acts as a sort of sub heading as it is the title and introduces each story, I feel that this works effectively and shows different sizes and types of font. On the cover I stuck to a specific color rule, only using white and pink, although there are other colors on the photograph, I think that the colors I used were nice colors to use as they are not to bright or dark, and ave an inviting presentation. The cover and contents page I can tell are from the same magazine as there are no outrageous color schemes on either, to make it more noticeable that there from the same magazine I should of introduced a small amount of pink to the title as I did on the front covers masthead. I also feel that I should of included a image on the contents page, which relates to the magazine so that it isn't as plain, I will consider this when redrafting. The main photograph on the front cover I feel was taken well, it shows the wind blowing her hair and a outdoorsy feel to it, the image is appropriate as the girl is a student on the college ground. The colors on the photo are good as they made the student stand out from the background, I made some photo-shop alternations to enhance the colors with the Adjustments, curve tool. The photograph works well with the color schemes and the text fonts and sizes. The stories on the cover are what I think are the right amount, they fill the sides of the magazine but don't take to much room that theirs no room for the photograph, they are all appropriate as they relate to college life including university open dates, college art work, and other stories that student would like to no about, I took the target audience responses I did earlier into consideration and came up with the type of stories that they'd read. The contents page has more stories as it has a larger area to fill, there are 4 more stories presented and are also related to college life, the look good and take up majority of the room which is what I intended.

  1. I like the cover because the picture being the background is unique but the writing still stands out from it. There is a clear colour scheme that sticks to the three colour rule. Maybe to improve it, you could add one or two pictures onto the contents page.

  2. I like the colour scheme you have used, and the medium close-up follows the conventions of a magazine. The photograph is edited really well, making the magazine look lively and exciting. I think to improve you could make the font slightly smaller on your contents page, as it looks a bit too big, and maybe add some more stories to your contents page, to make it look more realistic.

  3. Great image on the front cover. Use of font of title of magazine fits well to the college theme. Use of the three colour scheme is also good. However i feel that the contents page could do with some colour on it maybe use of red font used on the front cover or images of the college. Some text on the front doesnt seem to stand out that much maybe use a different colour of text on the sub-stories

  4. I like the background of the magazine because it is different and looks interesting. I think your text over the picture also works well. To improve your magazine you could make the text on the cover maybe bigger or a different colour because some parts are harder to read.

  5. This is really eye catching! I really like the use of colour on the cover, as it sticks to the 'three colour rule' and looks really enticing. This definitely stands out from all the other covers I've seen as the image is very striking (whilst still being fit for the purpose and the target audience) and the colour scheme is great! I like the use of the neutral colours to make it appeal to both genders of your target audience - it's genius! The contents page is very simple, yet effective, as the contrasting colours really make it clear to read and pleasing to the eye. The only thing I would change about this is the font on the cover, although it suits the style of magazine, I can't help thinking that a bolder font may have made the text easier to read. Over all the cover and contents page are great! Good work!
