Evaluation- Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Lady Gaga Q Double page spread.(left) compared to my model (right)

Posture/Gesture- The posture of both women show there confidence as both are holding there heads high with no shyness. Although my model is showing a more innocent and natural gesture with here hand not in the shot, showing that the Q magazines model is more cocky and shows her attitude within the shot, although both women appear strong.

Angle/Shot Type/ Lighting- I have used a medium shot of my model like the one of Lady Gaga because I like the effect of the chest to head being the main focus of the image, as it shows the facial expression of the model and a slight vision of the models posture and body language. The angle I have used is a eye level shot, I did this like Q magazine as it allows the model to look straight ahead, and gives a slight connection to the reader. I think the use of the eye level angle looks more natural and it was a straight forward angle to achieve. The lighting in both photos are natural and not heavily influenced, Q magazines photo possible has more lighting editing but none that is overly noticeable. My photo was taken in a drama block corridor, therefore the lighting was only from the lights with no enhancement from other lights.

Costume/Hair/Make-up- The make-up used on Lady Gaga is harder to tell how much has been applied because of the black & white effect, but when looking at the eyes it appears she appears to have really dark eye make-up, this is possibly because of the genre and style she is trying to portray, this being dark. In contrast my genre is more girly and pop'y therefore there isn't a lot of make-up on my model and has a more natural colour. The costume of my model is again more no natural as she is wearing a plain black dress, Lady Gaga on the other hand is wearing chains to show what type of genre she is aiming to portray. The hair of my model is long and a light mousy brown colour, her hair style is normal and is slightly backcombed for more volume, whereas Lady Gaga's hair is in more of a short up-do, with it being curled, and hairsprayed.

Expression-  The expression of both models are normal and not very staged. My models expression is smiley and girly, this is to represent the genre her music is, and to give a innocent and vulnerable look. Lady Gaga has a more aggressive expression to represent her genre of music being more dangerous and dark.
